Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Game VS Ottawa RedBlacks
Since we moved to Hamilton after getting married, I’ve been telling my wife Leanne that one day I’m going to shoot the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in some capacity. Don’t know what. Don’t know how. I have no connections and, until we’d lived 2 blocks from the stadium, also had no interest in any sport whatsoever. Well, at Chris & Heather’s incredible wedding reception, I was sat next to this awesome dude named Nick, whom I discovered through dinner worked for the Ticats head office in the marketing / social media department. I basically begged him to let me shoot a game and he was the nicest guy ever. Like a week later and I was at one of the Cats’ last games of the season.
Cue game day. A cold, very wet, very windy November night. Game almost got cancelled but we soldiered on like the Canadian league we are. My socks were soaked through my shoes 30 minutes before kickoff. I was fighting the elements the whole time but WHAT. AN. EXPERIENCE. I primarily focused on the micro-film I wanted to put together after seeing some incredible work by Brooks Reynolds who has done work for the Ticats before, and I snapped a bunch of photos along the way. Needless to say; one of the coolest experiences of my career (without a doubt) and I will always be indebted to Nick for letting me live out one of my lifelong (4 year) dreams.
